The earliest records of the church date back to 1263. It was built the way it is today only in 1782 on the remains of the Chapel of S. Benedetto, also using materials obtained from the demolition of some of the town’s old churches. It is one of the most significant buildings of Montegiorgio. It is made of clay and is accessed through a single Neoclassical portal, it reaches a height of 36.5 metres from the street and is the town’s tallest church. The Interior of the Church consists of a large central nave and two smaller ones on the sides. It is characterised by six large arches that give access to six side altars. The ceiling features a barrel vault. In the Chapel of the “Addolorata”, it is possible to admire a painting by Luigi Fontana (1817-1908) from Monte San Pietrangeli, who worked between the Marches and Rome in the second half of the 19th century, and some decorations made by his apprentice, Nicola Achilli from Montegiorgio. On the right, next to the entrance, there is the statue of St George that is carried on the shoulders by the citizens during the procession to celebrate their patron saint.
