The monastery of S. Chiara was founded in 1400 by eight devote girls who joined to live a cloistered existence, secluding themselves voluntarily in a property that the Benedictine monks had abandoned and that had been donated to them by the town of Montegiorgio. Eventually, the nuns confined themselves to the monastery in perpetual seclusion under the rule of St Francis and gave the church the name of St Clare. The history of the monastery is not clear due to a fire that broke out in 1517 and to the subsequent deprivations suffered. The church has a single nave with a round vault, a painted coffered ceiling and six panels with lunettes near the semicircular windows. St Clare is depicted inside a circular frame. The altarpiece above the high altar features a depiction of the Madonna with Child and St Francis and St Clare at her feet.
The paintings on the walls of the nave represent St Agnes and St John Bosco, with St Joseph on the opposite side.
