It is the oldest church in the historic centre (11th century ca). Particularly typical of that era and of Romanesque sculpture, are the little human heads and the animals depicted on the ledge. Since 1263, the church had belonged to the Benedictines, then it passed to the Bishop of Fermo and in the 16th century to the Confraternity of the Blessed Sacrament.
In the second half of the 18th century, the church was extended through big modernization works and acquired a Baroque style that can be still seen in the façade with its original curvilinear appearance and in the rococo interior. The façade features two niches which probably contained some statues and that now have been lost. Inside, the church has three naves, a large central one with a barrel vault and two smaller ones with rib vaults. It is decorated with stucco elements that frame the altars below, embellished with paintings by Ubaldo Ricci (Last Supper, 1710), Filippo Ricci (Sacred Heart of Jesus and Our Lady of the Rosary, 1769; St Judas and Simon, 1771) while the apse contains an altarpiece by Filippo Conti representing St Michael the Archangel (1766).
