The Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie was built in 1634 over the previous oratory of Santa Maria in Villa. Over the years, the church underwent only a few changes and so it has been mostly preserved as it was originally: a single nave with a barrel vault. The façade is surmounted by a triangular tympanum and encloses a rectangular window and the entrance portal. The walls that support the arch that divides the nave from the presbytery contain two niches with the statues of St Monica and St Anthony. Today, the Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie with its central arch, together with the nearby spring with three basins, represents one of the oldest buildings in the village of Monteverde, rebuilt after the old mediaeval castle fell into ruin. Monteverde was the residence of the lords Rinaldo and Mercenario. The castle, and most likely the village together with it, was completely destroyed in 1443.
